Lynne Featherstone Voted ‘Most Fanciable MP’
Issued: February 12, 2010

Lynne Featherstone, the Liberal Democrat MP for Hornsey and Wood Green has received an early Valentine’s treat this year by being voted the ‘Most Fanciable MP’ by Sky News’ Boulton & Co blog, www.skynews.com/boultonandco in the last ‘Most Fanciable’ poll of this Parliament.

The annual poll, which is compiled by Sky News political editors and correspondents, breaks with tradition this year by presenting the Most Fanciable MP of the 2005-2010 Parliament.

Lynne Featherstone, 58, told Sky News: "For a woman who stopped counting her age several decades ago, I am very flattered by the compliment.  Although if politics is show business for ugly people, does that mean I'm best of a bad lot?"

A regular entrant into the love poll, the Hornsey and Wood Green MP's previous highest entry was at number 2 in 2009, making her the Most Fanciable Female MP that year, although she was beaten to the number one spot by Health Secretary Andy Burnham.

The Most Fanciable Male MP on the list this year is Conservative MP for Windsor, Adam Afriyie. He made it into the top five despite not having made an appearance in the 2007 and 2008 lists.

Number 2 on the list this year is Caroline Flint, Labour PM for Don Valley, who was crowned Most Fanciable MP in 2006, but dropped off the list altogether in 2008 when it was MPs themselves who voted for the winners.

Other female entrants this year include Julie Kirkbride, Conservative MP for Bromsgrove in third place, who was 2007's Most Fanciable MP. The ever-popular Liberal Democrat Julia Goldsworthy is tied at number 5 with Nick Clegg, the only party leader to have ever made it into the Most Fanciable MP winners' list. Tied at 7th place are two previous winners – from 2008, the Conservative’s Jeremy Hunt and from 2009, Labour’s Andy Burnham.

This year’s results have been calculated on candidates’ previous form and on a purely mathematically basis. Each MP who has appeared in the past four competitions has received points from 1-10 based on their rankings; with those that came top of the list being awarded 10 points, and those coming bottom receiving 1 point. Therefore, a consistent presence on the chart has been as valuable as coming top in any one year.

Sky News’ Miranda Richardson said: “Lynne Featherstone is someone who exemplifies the importance of stamina, being the only MP to make it into the top 10 in each year of the Parliament”

Overall, the Conservatives are the ‘Most Fanciable’ party – with six of their MPs making it onto the list. Labour ranks as the least fanciable party, with only two MPs making the grade.

Here is the list (last year’s rankings in brackets) for Most Fanciable MP of the 2005-2010 Parliament, which includes 2 Labour MPs, 3 Liberal Democrat MPs, and 6 Conservative MPs:

1. (2) Lynne Featherstone, 58, Liberal Democrat, Hornsey and Wood Green
