Sky News wins BAFTA award for News Coverage
Issued: April 21, 2008

Monday, 21 April 2008 Sky News has won a Bafta for News Coverage of the Glasgow terror attacks.

The annual BAFTA TV awards saw the channel beat off stiff competition from BBC Ten O’clock News, ITV Evening News and Channel 4 News to scoop the News Coverage award for the third time.

John Ryley, Head of Sky News picked up the award last night along with members of his team including Sky News presenter Emma Crosby who was on air at the time of the terror attacks.  He said: “Winning the BAFTA award for News Coverage is a great achievement and a testament to the hard work, speed and – crucially - the boldness of the Sky News team.

When terrorists attempted to attack Glasgow airport Sky News was first to broadcast eyewitness testimony, video and photos.  A textbook example of how to sustain accurate, informative live television news on one of the year’s biggest breaking news stories.
