David Crabtree

David Crabtree is Sky News’ Bureau Chief in the Midlands. He has worked for Sky News since 1994, when he joined as a Midlands reporter.

David was part of the Sky News team which covered the devastating floods in Cumbria, reporting from Cockermouth and Workington. He also reported from around the UK on the heavy snow falls which brought Britain to a standstill in winter 2010. David also covered the tragic deaths of Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells. The channel was subsequently awarded a BAFTA News Award for its coverage of the Soham Murders.

Throughout his time at Sky News David has reported on a range of major stories, including the war in Kosovo, the Indian earthquake in 2001 and the murder hunt and trial of the Ipswich murderer Steve Wright. He was also assigned to New York and Washington in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and covered the aftermath of the war in Iraq.

David studied journalism at Sheffield before starting his career as a trainee reporter on the Carlisle-based Cumberland News. He moved to the Birmingham Post and Mail as a reporter before joining BBC Radio Merseyside in Liverpool where he gained experience across the spectrum; working as newsreader, reporter and producer. David later worked at BBC Radio Manchester, as news editor, and BBC’s radio network in London, acting as a news correspondent for Radios 1, 2 and 4.

David’s move into television broadcasting came when he joined Central Television as a reporter and presenter.

In what spare time David has he enjoys photography, football, cricket and taking trips to Cornwall with his wife, Liza.
