Ashish Joshi

Ashish Joshi has more than 16 years experience in television journalism and has covered many of the world’s major news events.  He is currently based in London as a News Correspondent, and covers stories both at home and abroad.

As Sky’s Gulf Correspondent he was responsible for setting up the Sky News Dubai bureau, reporting on stories from across the Gulf region including the Iranian Presidential elections, and the hunt for Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. He also reported from Indonesia following the Sumatra earthquake.

Ashish joined Sky News in 2004 as a news reporter and he has since covered a variety of stories. He was the first UK journalist to be dispatched to Sri Lanka to cover the devastation of the Asian Tsunami. His coverage included a world exclusive on the deaths of 1500 passengers aboard the Galle Express as the train was struck by the giant wave.  He returned to Sri Lanka throughout the next 12 months to record the plight of the coastal communities as they struggled to rebuild their lives. He was a New York Television Festival Awards 2005 finalist in the Best News Reporter/Correspondent category and winner of a silver award for a series of documentaries on the aftermath of the Tsunami.

Ashish was one of the few international correspondents who managed to report from the mountains of the Kaghan Valley in Kashmir following a catastrophic earthquake in 2005.

He has reported on the civil war in Sri Lanka ahead of a crucial Presidential election, crossing Tamil Tiger held territory in the north east of the island. His interview with guerilla leader SP Thamilselvan was one of the last recorded with the Tamil Tiger rebel before he was assassinated in a Sri Lankan air force strike.

Ashish has also covered the 7/7 London bombings, the Lebanon War, the 2006 Football World Cup in Germany and the abduction of Madeleine McCann from Portugal.

In 2008 Ashish gained exclusive access to knife offenders inside Britain’s jails to lead Sky News’ special coverage devoted to the issue.

Before joining Sky News in 2004, Ashish spent 10 years at the Asian broadcaster ZEE TV where he was Head of News and Current  Affairs (Europe).
