
Robert Nisbet
Robert Nisbet is a based in Washington as Sky News' US Correspondent covering US news.
He spent most of 2008 on the campaign trail, covering the historic Presidential election, interviewing Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Mike Huckabee and Rudy Giuliani among others. He reported live among the crowds lining Pennsylvania Avenue on Inauguration Day.
Robert was also in Los Angeles to cover the aftermath of the death of Michael Jackson. He was part of the team which reported on the singer's memorial service, and the legal repercussions of his sudden passing.
He also filed reports from around the Americas: on the trail of the elusive canoe couple in Panama and travelling to Venezuela to chart the career of the country’s maverick President, Hugo Chavez.
His previous role as Sky News' Environment Correspondent uncovered the extent of contamination of the Olympic Park site in east London. He also interviewed former president Al Gore live about his environmental concerns and fronted Sky News Green Britain: The Bigger Picture, a week of programmes dedicated to the environment.
Robert joined Sky News in January 2005 as a Special Correspondent. Reporting on Live at Five and the former The Sky Report he has filmed a series of undercover reports on religious extremism in America’s mid-west, assessed voter reaction to the General Election campaign in Sky’s ‘Swingseat’ and even reported live from the Oscars in Hollywood.
He spent several years at the BBC and covered major international awards ceremonies and interviewed celebrities such as Elton John, Bono and Robbie Williams. He has reported from the thick of Los Angeles’ forest fires and compiled a documentary for BBC2’s War Zone series investigating the impact of 9/11 on the youth of America.
Robert joined the BBC in 1994 as a launch producer on BBC Radio 5 Live, and won a Sony Award for his work on 5 Live’s Entertainment News. He later became Entertainment Correspondent and presenter on BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat. He spent a year in Los Angeles as a reporter before joining BBC Liquid News in 2000 where he sparred with the late Christopher Price on the day’s top news story. A year later, he joined the BBC’s Six O’Clock News team, delivering nightly reports on culture and human interest stories.
He has also presented, alongside Nicki Chapman, BBC 1’s live programme, The Morning Show. In 2003, he was appointed BBC News’ Los Angeles Correspondent where he reported on everything from the Michael Jackson abuse hearings to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s inauguration as Californian Governor.
He has contributed to both newspapers and the magazines.
Robert cut his broadcasting teeth on local and Virgin radio. A post-graduate of the Cardiff School of Journalism, Robert studied History at Bristol University.
Born in Guilford, Robert indulged his passion for travel at an early stage, growing up in Kenya, London and Glasgow. He freely admits to an unhealthy interest in quality horror films citing Carrie as particular favourite.
