
Ian Dovaston
As Sports News Correspondent, Ian concentrates on the issues behind the top sports stories. In 2009 he exclusively interviewed the AC Milan Medical Director, Jean Pierre Meersseman, as well as Fifa President Jack Warner. He also reported from around the country during the 2009 Ashes series and from South Africa during the 2010 World Cup.
He reported from the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Before this role, Ian was a general news reporter for many years, covering stories such as the Asian Tsunami and Michael Jackson's trial in the US as well as the trial of the serial killer Dr. Harold Shipman.
One of the highlights of Ian’s career was covering terminal cancer sufferer and charity fundraiser Jane Tomlinson’s 1,060-mile bike ride from John O’ Groats to Land’s End.
Ian grew up in Chester-le-Street in County Durham. He studied print journalism at Darlington College of Technology, before starting his career at weekly newspaper the Gateshead Post. He then moved to The Journal (where he was named North-East Young Journalist of the Year in 1990) before joining BBC Radio Newcastle. After three years in radio he moved to Tyne Tees Television before joining Sky News in 1998.
